Our Company History
Back in 1986 my father Pasquale Mazzoli had this idea for us to start up a business to market flags and related products. He took pride in being an American and showed his unrelenting patriotism to his community and country in every aspect of what it is to be an American. The values he instilled in me at a young age was to love your neighbors and to give of yourself with out expectations for oneself; it is the gratification from good deeds that fulfills our lives.
An Italian immigrant named Pietro Mazzoli (my grandfather) opened up a small business in 1927 in Gravesend, Brooklyn, N.Y. known as Mazzoli Coffee, Inc. As a young boy my father was nurtured into his family business, where growing up I acquired my work experience. Together we were able to take on our new endeavor, hence, on May 19, 1986 Gravesend Flag Company was opened for business.
In the spring of 1643 an English noble women named Lady Deborah Moody sailed from Gravesend, England for the New England colony of Lynn, Massachusetts. Her views were contrary to the Puritan way of life and together with her followers resettled in the Dutch province of New Amsterdam. Moody was one of the first women ever to be awarded a signed town charter and grant in the New World. In 1645 their settlement was officially named the town of Gravesend, founded on the precepts of religious freedom.
